Weekend Notes: Finish study guide up to objective 10 Human Impacts Project Proposal
By Monday, you need to come to class with an idea of what human impact you are interested in investigating. Honors, come prepared with 2 data sets pertaining to that impact.
Photosynthesis Lab Introduction Questions: (answer on a separate piece of paper and bring to class)
1. What is photosynthesis? Why is it important?
2. What is needed for photosynthesis to occur? What is produced as a result of photosynthesis?
3. What three factors affect the rate of photosynthesis and how?
Honors only:
4. How does light intensity affect the rate of photosynthesis? (cite research paper/lab done on this question)
5. cite minimum 3 sources in background
Lab Safety Poster Criteria: Your task is to create a lab safety poster for your assigned safety rule (according to cell phone slot #). This project is worth 20 pts and will be graded based on the following criteria:
Clarity: The rule is clearly, and neatly stated
Imagery: You have a relevant picture to illustrate your rule
Creativity: You use color and /or mixed media
Presentation: On Monday you will give a 1 minute spiel about your poster and why that rule is important
*I will select some of the best posters to be displayed around the room *
Time capsule letter instructions: Write a one page (handwritten or typed) letter to yourself that you will receive back on the last day of school. In your letter, consider the following questions:
What are your goals for the year?
What are you most excited about? What are you most nervous about?
What is your all time favorite memory at Latin thus far?
Anything else? Favorite song right now? First impressions? ect.
*I will not read these. Each of you will be given an envelope so please sign and seal it upon turning it in, and yes this is for a homework grade.*
Invasive Species Wanted Poster Project (HONORS ONLY)
Name/Also Known As (latin name/common name/ criminal name) (2 pts)
Picture - a drawing or photograph (2 pts)
Identifying Characteristics – key features to look for when identifying the criminal. Explain what the plant/animal looks like. Any marks that stand out? If you can, include the size, size of reproductive litter, how many times the animal/plant breeds a year. (2 pts)
Crimes Committed – by your species (crimes must be specific to your species and not general to all invasive species). Explain what your organism has done to the local habitat it has been introduced to. Include predator/ prey relationships with local species. Include effect on business and human interaction. (6 pts)
Last Seen – where did the species originally come from? What is a possible way your plant/animal was introduced to this new habitat? (3 pts)
Suspected Hideouts – Description of preferred habitat. (3 pts)
Reward – How is it being controlled? What is being done to stop the spread of this species? (2 pts)
Homework is posted in the chart according to the day it is ASSIGNED. All homework is due the following class period unless noted otherwise. Major assignments like Tests and Project due dates will be indicated in red. Please don't hesitate to email me with any questions. (gjost@latinpcs.org)
